Geometric surfaces in architecture : practice book
Univerzitetska biblioteka "Nikola Tesla NIš, Biblioteka "Udžbenici i priručnici"
The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, University of Niš (Serbia), introduced an academic course Geometric Surfaces in Architecture (GSA) into the teaching plan of the master's studies of Architecture in the academic year 2009/10. In theoretical classes, the students learned about all types and characteristics of geometric surfaces applied in architecture, while in practical classes they modelled those same surfaces in one of CAD softwares, although the modelling of especially curved geometric surfaces was very complicated. The authors of this practice book considered that the students should be introduced to geometric surfaces and their modelling in CAD software Rhinoceros at the very beginning of their studies, so that they could apply the gained knowledge in designing architectural objects in further studies, as well as later in practice. Through 12 units, students will learn the characteristics of various forms while creating 3D models. In the first unit, students will learn how to use Rhinoceros, the 3D modeling software used in this book. In the second and third units, they will learn how to create basic forms. In the fourth to sixth units, they will learn the principles of solid primitives such as polyhedrons, and in the seventh and subsequent units, they will learn how to create various geometrical surfaces. In addition, exercises are provided for each unit to allow for thorough review.
