The intensity of peer conflicts is a phenomenon that needs to bemore present in public discourse. This research examines themanagement of the intensity of peer conflicts in a contemporaryschool. Peer conflicts can be of different intensity, and it is importantto manage them so that they do not escalate into violent behavior. With planning and realization of counselling and pedagogical work, guiding counselling interviews, monitoring and evaluating effects ofcounselling and pedagogical work, socially acceptable behaviour ofstudents is encouraged and the intensity of peer conflicts is placedunder management. The representation of students' personalcharacteristics and their willingness for peer mediation enablestudents to become participants in managing the intensity of peerconflicts. Planning activities within educational programs has apreventive effect on the intensity of peer conflicts. The sample encompas students of elementary and secondaryschools, homeroom teachers, pedagogues and psychologists from theterritory of the city of Nis. Research instruments were designed forstudents, homeroom teacher and professional associates. A checklistfor educational programs analysis was created. The results indicate that schools manage the intensity of peerconflicts. Peer conflicts are not very intense. In counseling andpedagogical work, adequate procedures are used even for peerconflicts of lower intensity. Working on students' negative emotionsand activities following a counseling conversation are associatedwith a decrease in perceptions of the intensity of peer conflict.Students have mediation competence, but it needs to be at a higherlevel of development. Students with more developed social andemotional competencies perceive greater intensity of peer conflicts.Students who perceive higher intensity of peer conflicts are alsomore prepared to lead the mediation process. Greater control ofstudents' emotions and behavior leads to a decrease in the intensityof conflicts with friends and peers. Girls are more socially andemotionally competent than boys, as are students who participate instudent communities. Students' willingness to conduct peermediation decreases with age, but increases with higher academicsuccess. Girls are more prepared to conduct peer mediation, as arestudents who use a collaborative style in conflicts. By improvingeducational programs, an effective model for managing the intensityof peer conflicts in school can be created.
