Opis (srp)

The focus of this doctoral dissertation is the microtoponymic system of Zaplanje, a region located in southeastern Serbia. This area is characterized by a narrow, hilly, and mountainous terrain, bordered by three mountains (Suva Planina, Seličevica, and Babička Gora) and the South Morava River. In the course of recording Zaplanje’s microtoponymy, all place names that humans have assigned to help with orientation and the organization of activities essential to their livelihood were documented. Microtoponyms, however, are prone to change, particularly in contemporary times, as rural areas are being abandoned and people are increasingly migrating to urban centers. This migration threatens the preservation of microtoponyms, as the knowledge of these place names is gradually being lost. The primary goal of this dissertation is to capture the entire body of microtoponymic data from the Zaplanje region and conduct a thorough analysis using onomastic methods. Fieldwork played a key role in gathering this data, with information collected through interviews with informants fluent in the local Zaplanje dialect. Additionally, the research incorporates place names collected by Vilotije Vukadinović in Zaplanje at the end of the last century, which were compiled for the Onomastics Committee of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) and are preserved by the committee. The Zaplanje dialect is part of the Svrljig-Zaplanje dialect, which falls within the Prizren-Timok dialectal zone, combining both linguistic archaisms and newer developments. Thedialectal aspects of the microtoponymic data are explored in a dedicated chapter. This study involves an in-depth toponomastic analysis that approaches the data from both a lexical-semantic and structural-formative perspective. The microtoponymic material collected from the Zaplanje region is categorized into semantic groups and subgroups. Additionally, a derivational analysis is conducted to identify the formative patterns that shaped the geographic names in the area. The methods used in this research include analytical, descriptive, corpus-based, classificatory, statistical, and comparative approaches.
