Some of the structures of smart cities, whose operation is based onvarious autonomous sensors, are intelligent transport systems andsystems for monitoring environmental parameters.Quantitative and qualitative detection of vehicles is one of the basicoperations of intelligent transport systems. The dissertation describesthe process of designing a magnetic field generator in two differentways, which reconstructs the vehicle's magnetic signature in order tosimulate the traffic flow and test the correctness of the vehicle'sdetector. The design of the parameters of the coil used to generate themagnetic field is performed analytically and numerically.Also, a vehicle detector based on a sensor for measuring the magneticfield, based on a finite state automaton algorithm implemented usinga microcontroller, was designed.Another example of an autonomous sensor implemented in thedissertation is a sensor node for air quality monitoring. At the sametime, energy consumption was optimized using the TEEN routingprotocol and the principle of determining ST limit values waspresented. A sensor node for temperature measurement with directcommunication with the server by implementing the MQTT protocolwas realized.The autonomy of the sensor is reflected, first of all, in its independentpower supply, in the implementation of which supercapacitors play asignificant role. The dissertation presents the experimental results ofcomparing the efficiency of supercapacitor charging in different waysusing low-power solar cells.In addition to the autonomous power supply of individual nodes,within the sensor network it is necessary to ensure an appropriatelevel of security when sending data, for which encryption algorithmsare most often used. A performance comparison between thehardware and software implementation of the AES encryptionalgorithm within the sensor node was performed.
