Opis (eng)

The research topic of this PhD thesis is the complete works of a contemporary Serbian poet Novica Tadic (1949-2011). The matter regards the poetry which was being written during the last quarter of the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st century, on the boundary between the high modernism and postmodernism, and which, regardless of the eager reception of the literary critics, didn’t receive a comprehensive monograph after the poet’s death. The objective of our work is to evince the most important poetic characteristics of Tadic’s works and determine their place, role and significance in the history of the contemporary Serbian literature. To present Tadic’s poetry and poetics, we use the methodological pluralism, by taking a poststructural stance about the cross-genre use of theories, in order to achieve as elaborate interpretations of the texts as possible. A special attention is paid to the process of carnevalization, the grotesque as an aesthetic category, irony and parody. By describing the constituents of Tadic’s poetic world, we are determined to pinpoint the dominating problem of the origin of evil, and the feelings of fear and dread as the only aspects of the visible emotionality. Таdic’s poetic system, based on the ambivalence principles, caused the greatest turmoil precisely at the question of religiousness, where a separate field of problematics was created. Therefore, we allude to the dual origin of religious concepts and ideas – the Orthodox Christian theology and the Gnostic/Bogomil teachings. From the given standpoint we explain, as well, the problem of coherence in this poetic work, the parallel fascination by the demonic world and the presence of the penitent and deprecatory tone, thus asserting Tadic as a posmodernist and isolating the fragmentariness, polyphonicness and ambivalence as the key poetic settings which annihilate the idea of modernist Wholeness and Truth. With this research we have started not only the revalorization of Tadic’s creativity, but also the issue of poetics of the Serbian poetry at the turn of 20th century, that is, the issue of relation between modernism and postmodernism, with which we have created the possibility of a literary-historic reflection on the other poetic texts at the age of changing of poetic paradigms.
